Hamburger Steak Recipe

Hamburger steak is undoubtedly an easy and favorite weeknight dinner recipe. It is the perfect easy classic dinner and surely a comfort food the whole family will love. The simple ingredients used for hamburger steak very much resembles those of hamburger.

Smothered in gravy these steaks are to die for. The preparation does not take so long and you can make this classic dinner even on weeknight to enjoy a hearty and delicious meal. There are no fancy ingredients or complex techniques involved. First seared in a skillet, then transferred to onion rich gravy these hamburger steaks turn out very rich in flavor and finger-licking good.

You can bring many variations to this recipe. For instance, you can replace the gravy and top the steaks with garlic butter. You can also add some chopped up bacon to crisp it up. If want to spice it up, try adding cayenne pepper to it. Along with onions and mushrooms you can also add bell pepper. To add some cheesiness, add in shredded cheddar cheese to the beef mixture. Follow this recipe for ultra-juicy, even better than restaurant, melt in your mouth homemade hamburger steak dressed up in savory gravy.

Preparation time: 15 minutes cooking: 15 minutes total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1lb ground beef.
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 8 ounce sliced mushrooms
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme leaves

Instructions:

  • Take a bowl and add ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, egg and paprika. Combine this mixture. Divide the beef mixture into 4 patties and flatten each to about ½ inch thick oval shaped patty.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add patties into it and let cook until golden brown from each side. Make sure the patties are cooked through. Transfer to napkin and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add butter and let it melt. Add sliced mushrooms and onions. Cook until softened. Add all-purpose flour and toss so the veggies get coated. Now whisk in broth and add Worcestershire and thyme leaves. As it starts boiling, reduce heat and let simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Now transfer the steaks back to the skillet and pour sauce over. Heat until warm. Hamburger steaks are ready to serve.

 

Note: the leftovers are to be stored in an airtight container in fridge for 3 to 4 days. In order to reheat the steaks, place in a skillet over medium heat. You can also microwave for 1 to 2 minutes at a time. If you want to make these ahead of time then work through step 2 but do not make gravy at this point Wrap individually in a plastic wrap and freeze in resealable freezer bag. These will keep for about 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight. Make gravy when you are ready to serve.
