Basil-Caper Relish Recipe

This vibrant and flavorful Basil-Caper Relish is a versatile condiment that adds a burst of Mediterranean-inspired goodness to your dishes. With a combination of capers, olives, basil, and other zesty ingredients, this relish pairs wonderfully with pan-roasted fish, creating a delightful and elevated dining experience.

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed, drained, and roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped kalamata or Taggiasche olives
  • 1 small shallot, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 Thai bird or serrano pepper, seeded and chopped
  • ½ cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 scallions, finely sliced
  • 3 anchovy fillets, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the capers, chopped olives, minced shallot, chopped chile pepper, fresh basil, finely sliced scallions, and chopped anchovy fillets.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the fresh lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, and honey until well combined.
  3. While whisking constantly, slowly pour the extra-virgin olive oil into the lemon juice and vinegar mixture in a thin, steady stream. Continue whisking until the dressing is emulsified and well blended.
  4. Combine the dressing with the caper-olive mixture in the small bowl, tossing gently to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing.
  5. Season the Basil-Caper Relish with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, adjusting the seasoning as desired.

 

SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
