Walnuts in Syrup

You don’t have to visit the old-fashioned ice cream shop to enjoy this taste of yesteryear. These sweet, gooey nuts are the perfect addition to hot fudge sundaes or banana splits. Indulge!

INGREDIENTS | YIELD: 1 CUP

  • ⅓ cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • Pinch salt

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Bring the maple syrup to a boil in a saucepan, then stir in the walnuts.
  2. Allow the syrup to return to a boil, then stir for about 10 seconds. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  3. Store refrigerated in a covered container. Reheat as needed in a microwave, if desired.

Nuts about Nuts

While walnuts are the most common nut to find drenched in syrup, feel free to substitute your favorite variety, such as pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts. For added flavor, take an extra 10 minutes and toast the nuts before preparing the recipe.
