Asian Five-Spice Wings

Indulge in the bold and flavorful experience of Asian Five-Spice Wings, a dish that will take your taste buds on a journey. These gluten-free wings offer a perfect balance of marination and air fryer cooking, resulting in crispy, flavorful wings that don’t require a separate dipping sauce. The unique method of sprinkling the Chinese five-spice powder after cooking maximizes the depth of flavor.

Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 13–15 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour 23–25 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • ½ cup Asian-style salad dressing
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese five-spice powder

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Prep the Chicken Wings: Begin by cutting off the wing tips and discarding them or freezing them for future stock. Cut the remaining wing pieces in two at the joint, separating the drumettes and wingettes.
  2. Marinate the Wings: Place the prepared wing pieces in a large sealable plastic bag. Pour in the Asian-style salad dressing, seal the bag, and gently massage the marinade into the wings until they are well coated. Refrigerate the bag of marinating wings for at least an hour, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  3. Prep for Air Frying: After marinating, remove the wings from the bag, allowing any excess marinade to drain off. Place the wing pieces in the air fryer basket.
  4. Cooking Process: Set the air fryer to cook at 360°F (180°C) and cook the wings for 13 to 15 minutes, or until the juices from the wings run clear. About halfway through the cooking time, pause the cooking process to shake the basket or stir the wings. This will ensure even cooking and browning.
  5. Season with Five-Spice Powder: Once the wings are fully cooked and crispy, transfer them to a plate in a single layer. Sprinkle half of the Chinese five-spice powder over the wings. Turn the wings and sprinkle the remaining seasoning on the other side, ensuring that the seasoning adheres well to the hot wings.

TIP:

  • For optimal flavor, consider using Newman’s Own Sesame Ginger Dressing as recommended in this recipe.

Delight in the aromatic and savory experience of these Asian Five-Spice Wings. With the perfect combination of marination and air frying, these wings deliver a satisfying crunch and an explosion of flavor that will captivate your taste buds. Skip the dipping sauce – these wings are packed with taste all on their own.
