Ingredients:
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 chopped small onion
- 3 crushed cloves of garlic
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 can of Tomato Paste.
- 2 cans diced tomatoes Or you can use fresh tomatoes.
- 2 cans tomato sauce
- 2 cups of water
- 3 teaspoons dried basil
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup red wine
- salt & pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions:
- Take a large pot and add olive oil in it. Let it heat and the add ground beef and sausage in it. Let cook until browned. Break the meat as you stir.
- Add chopped onions to the meat mixture and continue cooking. Stir occasionally until onions are softened.
- Now add diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. Mix so everything combines well.
- Mix in the spices, sugar, and garlic. Stir everything.
- Once the sauce starts boiling add wine and water.
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer for about an hour.
- If you desire a smoother consistency then you can blend the mixture after it is cooked.
Note: You can make this sauce ahead of time and store in cans to freeze. Thaw and reheat in microwave or on the stove.
