INGREDIENTS:

  • ²⁄₃ cup milk, at 80ºF (27ºC) to 90ºF (32ºC)
  • 1²⁄₃ tablespoons melted butter, cooled
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ²⁄₃ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • 2 cups white bread flour
  • 1½ teaspoons bread machine or active dry yeast
  • ²⁄₃ cup finely diced peeled apple

PREPARATIONS:

  1. Place all the ingredients except the finely diced peeled apple in your bread machine, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  2. Program the bread machine for the Basic/White bread setting, selecting either a light or medium crust, and press Start to initiate the baking process.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: 3. When the machine signals or just before the end of the second kneading cycle (if your machine doesn’t have a signal), add the finely diced peeled apple to the bread machine bucket.

  1. Once the baking cycle is complete, remove the bucket from the bread machine.
  2. Allow the loaf to cool within the bucket for about 5 minutes.
  3. Gently shake the bucket to release the loaf, and carefully turn it out onto a cooling rack. Allow it to cool further before slicing.

TIPS:

  • For an extra burst of flavor, consider adding a handful of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, to the bread dough before baking.
  • To make the most of the apple’s flavor, use a variety with a balanced combination of sweet and tart, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
