What better way to elevate these cherished moments than with homemade Hot Dog and Hamburger Buns? Imagine sinking your teeth into a soft, perfectly textured bun that cradles your favorite meats and toppings. With a bread maker as your sous chef, crafting these buns becomes a joyful and rewarding experience. Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue or a cozy indoor feast, these buns will transform your meal into a true culinary celebration. Join us on a journey of bread-making magic, where flour, milk, and a sprinkle of yeast come together to create buns that are as delightful as they are delectable.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups milk, slightly warmed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 3¾ cups bread flour
  • 1¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

Preparations

  1. Begin by placing the ingredients into the pan of your bread maker. Follow this order for layering: milk, beaten egg, unsalted butter, white sugar, salt, and bread flour. Keep the active dry yeast aside for now.
  2. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and carefully add the active dry yeast.
  3. Choose the Dough cycle on your bread maker and initiate the process. Once the cycle is complete, the dough will be ready for the next step.
  4. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into two halves.
  5. Roll each half into a circle with a thickness of about 1 inch.
  6. For hamburger buns, use an inverted glass as a cutter to create rounds with a diameter of 3½ inches. For hot dog buns, cut the dough lengthwise into 1-inch-thick rolls and make a slit along the length of each bun for easier separation later.
  7. Place the shaped buns on a greased baking sheet, leaving ample space between them. Brush the buns with melted butter for a golden finish.
  8. Cover the buns and let them rise until they double in size, which usually takes about an hour. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350ºF (180ºC).
  9. Once the buns have risen and the oven is preheated, bake them for approximately 9 minutes. Keep a close eye on them to ensure they turn out perfectly golden and soft.
  10. Allow the freshly baked buns to cool before using them as a delightful enclosure for your favorite meats and toppings.
