Hole in One

Are you in the mood for a breakfast that’s both delightful and quick to prepare? Look no further than our “Hole in One” recipe. While the name might conjure images of a classic English dish, our version takes a twist to create a satisfying and flavorful morning treat that’s sure to please both kids and adults alike. With just a handful of ingredients and a touch of creativity, you’ll have a breakfast that’s not only delicious but also a joy to make.

Have you ever heard of Toad in the Hole? It’s a traditional English dish featuring sausages enveloped in a delectable Yorkshire pudding-style batter. While across the pond in America, “Toad in the Hole” might mean an egg nestled within a piece of toast, our version goes a step further to bring you a speedy and satisfying breakfast delight. Crisp toast, a perfectly cooked egg, gooey cheese, and savory diced ham come together to create a Hole in One that’s both fun to eat and a breeze to prepare.

Yield: 1 serving
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 6–7 minutes
Total Time: 11–12 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 teaspoon of soft butter
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 teaspoons of diced ham

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Begin by preheating your air fryer to 330°F and placing a 6 x 6-inch baking dish inside the basket.
  2. Using a 2½-inch-diameter biscuit cutter, create a hole in the center of your bread slice.
  3. Spread the softened butter on both sides of the bread slice.
  4. Gently lay the buttered bread slice in the preheated baking dish, and crack the egg right into the hole you’ve created. Don’t forget to sprinkle some salt and pepper over the egg to add a burst of flavor.
  5. Allow your creation to cook for around 5 minutes, letting the magic happen.
  6. Now, carefully flip the toast over, revealing the cooked side. Generously top it with the shredded Cheddar cheese and the tantalizing diced ham.
  7. Let it cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes or until the egg yolk reaches the perfect level of doneness for your liking.

COOK’S NOTES:

  • Feeling extra indulgent? Don’t let that circular piece of bread go to waste! Toast it separately to create a delightful companion for your finished dish.

VARIATION:

  • Want to make this breakfast masterpiece truly your own? Follow the cooking directions provided above and then let your imagination run wild with toppings. Whether you’re a fan of zesty flavors, sweet and savory combinations, or a burst of freshness, the sky’s the limit. Consider trying out variations like:
