French Toast Sticks – OAMC

French toast sticks are a delightful and easy-to-eat twist on the classic French toast. Perfect for breakfast or as a snack, these crispy sticks soaked in a sweet and cinnamon-infused batter will satisfy your cravings. This recipe yields delicious French toast sticks that can be prepared ahead of time and conveniently reheated when desired.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8 slices of bread (Texas Toast style or French)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Cut each slice of bread into three pieces, creating sticks. If Texas Toast is not available, you can use French bread as a substitute.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the melted butter, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and milk. Beat the mixture well until thoroughly combined.
  4. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is coated on all sides. Place the coated sticks on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  5. If there is any remaining egg mixture, you can drizzle it over the sticks on the cookie sheet.
  6. Bake the French toast sticks on the middle rack of the oven for 25 minutes, turning them halfway through the baking time to ensure even browning.
  7. Allow the sticks to cool.
  8. Flash freeze the cooled sticks on the cookie sheet. Once frozen, transfer them to a ziplock bag for storage.
  9. To reheat the French toast sticks, place three sticks on a microwave-safe plate and heat them on high for approximately 1 minute or until warm.
  10. Serve the reheated sticks with syrup for dipping or drizzling.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Customize your French toast sticks by adding a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a dash of your favorite spices, such as nutmeg or cardamom, to the egg mixture.
  • For a fun variation, you can also coat the sticks in crushed cereal, such as cornflakes or cinnamon toast cereal, before baking for an extra crunch.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of bread, such as brioche or whole wheat, to add unique flavors and textures to your French toast sticks.

Enjoy these delicious homemade French toast sticks, whether for a leisurely breakfast or a quick snack. They are freezer-friendly, making them a convenient and tasty option for busy mornings or whenever you’re craving a delightful treat.
