INGREDIENTS:

  • Light brown sugar, for dipping the glass rim
  • ½ orange slice
  • 1½ fluid ounces Courvoisier
  • ¾ fluid ounce Cointreau
  • ¼ fluid ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • Ice cubes, for the shaker
  • 1 fluid ounce Prosecco, preferably Col de’ Salici Prosecco Superiore, chilled

 

PREPARATIONS:

  1. Put brown sugar on a small, flat-rimmed dish just larger in diameter than the rim of a martini glass. Shake the dish to spread the sugar in an even layer ¼ inch thick.
  2. Run the orange slice around the rim of the glass to moisten it, then dip the rim in the sugar to coat evenly.
  3. Pour the Courvoisier, Cointreau, lemon juice, and bitters in a cocktail shaker.
  4. Add ice cubes, cover, and shake several times to mix and chill the drink.
  5. Hold a cocktail strainer over the shaker with one hand and hold a fine-mesh strainer over the sugar-rimmed glass with the other.
  6. Pour from the shaker into the glass, double straining the cocktail.
  7. Top off with the Prosecco.
