Pecan Fried Pies Recipe

Pies are on the top of the list when it comes to classic Southern pastries and pecan pie beats them all. Like apple fried pies, pecan fried pies are also a treat during fall or holiday season. This will be your show stopping dessert this year. Crispy and flaky on the outside and juicy filling on the insides makes the perfect combination of a perfect dessert. Best of all, it prepares in less than an hour. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and double the fun.

For this recipe store bought pie crust is used. You can always use homemade pie crust if you have ingredients and time for that. But honestly, there is no difference.

So let’s dig into the recipe of this incredible dessert.

Preparation time: 30 minutes   Cook time: 15 minutes    Total time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 pie crusts
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan combine brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, butter and salt. Mix well.
  • Turn the heat to medium and cook the mixture until it starts boiling. Then reduce heat to simmer and stir in pecans. Let it simmer for 8 minutes. Now remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Bring the pie crust to room temperature and unroll on floured surface. Use a 4 inch circle cutter and cut through the dough until all of the dough has been used.
  • Place a tablespoon of pecan filling in the center of the pie crust circle and fold it over such that it forms a semi-circle.
  • Damp the edges so they stick together and use a fork to press the edges together.
  • Repeat the process for all the circles of dough.
  • Fry the pies in batches for about 1-2 minutes each side or until golden brown. Dish out and serve! Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top if desired.
