Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 5–7 minutes per batch

Total Time: 15–19 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup crushed cornflakes
  • 6 slices sandwich bread, each slice cut into 4 strips
  • Oil for misting or cooking spray
  • Maple syrup or honey

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a small bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Place the crushed cornflakes on a plate or in a shallow dish, creating a coating station for the French toast sticks.
  3. Dip each bread strip into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Roll the dipped strip in the cornflake crumbs, ensuring it’s coated evenly.
  4. Spray both sides of the coated bread strips with oil. This will help achieve a crispy texture during cooking.
  5. Arrange the bread strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  6. Cook the bread strips in the air fryer at 390°F (199°C) for 5 to 7 minutes, or until they turn a dark golden brown and become crisp.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all the French toast sticks are cooked.
  8. Serve the French Toast Sticks with maple syrup or honey for dipping, allowing you to enjoy them with a touch of sweetness.

VARIATION:

  • For a unique twist, omit the vanilla extract and use fresh orange juice instead of milk in the egg mixture. This variation offers a completely different flavor profile. Pair these orange-infused French Toast Sticks with pineapple spears and orange slices for a tropical breakfast experience.

Savor the joy of breakfast with these delightful French Toast Sticks, a playful twist on a timeless classic. Whether you’re enjoying them with a drizzle of maple syrup, honey, or exploring the zesty orange variation, these sticks offer a convenient and scrumptious way to start your day. With a balance of crispy coating and soft, flavorful interior, these sticks are perfect for kids and adults alike. So, dip, savor, and make breakfast an exciting and delicious adventure.
